Managing Director, Bain Capital
Ryan Cotton is a Managing Director at Bain Capital, a leading global private investment firm with approximately $80 billion in assets under management. He has significant experience in private equity investing and currently leads Bain Capital’s North American consumer, travel, leisure and hospitality, and real estate investment efforts.
Since joining the firm in 2003, Mr. Cotton has been actively involved with and served on the Board of Directors of a wide spectrum of prominent companies in which Bain Capital has made investments. These businesses include Canada Goose, one of the world’s leading manufacturers of performance luxury apparel; TOMS, the company that turned the idea of One for One™ into a global movement; Advantage Solutions, a global leader grocery services, sourcing and brokerage; Varsity Brands, the leader in school sports, spirit and achievement equipment and supplies; Michael’s Arts & Crafts, the retail leader in crafting; and Blue Nile, the leading online retailer of diamonds. Mr. Cotton is also responsible for the launch of Virgin Voyages, a start-up cruise operator developed and launched in partnership with Virgin and Sir Richard Branson. Mr. Cotton also been involved in a number of global transactions including Oedo Onsen hotsprings hotels in Japan and Carver, a leading beauty products company in Korea. Previously, Mr. Cotton has served on the boards of Sundial Brands, International Market Centers and Apple Leisure Group; he was also heavily involved in Bain Capital’s investment in Warner Music Group.
Prior to joining Bain Capital in 2003, Mr. Cotton was a consultant at Bain & Company and worked extensively in the consumer space. Previously, he worked in baseball operations as a member of The Boston Red Sox front office. Mr. Cotton also volunteers his time to support a variety of charitable organizations. He currently serves on the Board of Directors of City Year New York, an education-focused, nonprofit organization founded in 1988 that partners with public schools to provide full-time targeted intervention for students most at risk of dropping out, and the St. Mark’s School of Texas, a K-12 primary school located in Dallas, Texas.
Mr. Cotton received an M.B.A from The Stanford Graduate School of Business where he was a Seibel Scholar, an Arjay Miller Scholar and the winner of the Alexander A. Robichek Award for Outstanding Achievement in Finance. He received an A.B. in Philosophy from Princeton University.
